POSITION:

Reporting to the CEO, the Senior Director, Finance is a collaborative member of the Leadership team accountable for providing leadership and operational direction to the Finance Department, consistent with Ongwanada’s strategic goals and managing their execution to deliver desired outcomes.

Provide strategic leadership for all finance activities including the management and oversight of all accounting and financial activities related to cost and general accounting, budgeting, internal financial reporting, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, risk management, audit preparation and external financial reporting.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership, direction and management to the Finance department including: Cost and General accounting, Budgeting, Financial reporting, Accounts Payable and Receivable, Payroll, Audit preparation, Ministry/funder reporting, Finance & Audit Committee preparation, Fee for Service, Procurement, Capital Planning, Financial statements management.
  • Ensure legal risks to the organization are monitored and managed.
  • Direct the implementation and maintenance of internal control systems to ensure security of financial resources; reviews and revises financial policies and procedures as required.
  • Review, approve and provide monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting materials and metrics on a timely basis as required to Ongwanada Management, Audit and Finance Committee, Board of Directors, Ministry of Children Community and Social Services and other regulated agencies.
  • Develop operating and capital budgets with Ministry of Children, Community & Social Services and prepare quarterly variance reports, annual reconciliations and capital project progress and final reports;
  • Prepare, analyze and present periodic forecasts to departments, Finance & Property Committee, and the Board of Directors

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • University degree in Business Administration or Accounting with a strong emphasis on accounting and financial management; CPA designation or equivalent;
  • Minimum of 5 years’ related work experience at a management level;
  • Knowledge of government reporting requirements in the not-for-profit sector;
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate staff, capable in applying principles of coaching, mentoring and performance management effectively;
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills;
  • Ability to think strategically and operationalize plans;
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, follow-up and accuracy coupled with good  analytical skills as well as solid business acumen
