Excitement was in the air as members of Ongwanada’s Auxiliary met for a final celebration on August 9, 2022. It was clear the group has developed a special bond over the years as many stories and memories were shared.
The members were reunited to celebrate their many years of dedication and commitment to supporting Ongwanada.
Board of Governors members were on hand to present the Auxiliary with a commemorative plaque which was hung on the boardroom wall to recognize their outstanding efforts and achievements over 68 years.
Since 1953 the Auxiliary has been diligently raising funds through various events, including gift shop sales, cookbook, garage & bake sales, strawberry socials, and many, many raffles.
The funds raised have contributed to many areas of the organization, including redecorating the chapel (1958), an annual donation towards summer holiday camp, $60,000 towards Ongwanada’s capital campaign (1991), funds toward the purchase of a ventilation system for the Genomics research lab, a wheelchair accessible van, client equipment and most recently, outfitting the Phil Koven Memorial Boardroom with contemporary furnishings and technology that enables the Board and staff to conduct virtual meetings.
It was an excellent opportunity to see the Auxiliary together one last time. We sincerely thank each member for their commitment and continued support and recognize their strong legacy of countless quiet acts performed with dedication and love.
