Ongwanada Auxiliary

Founded in 1953, the Auxiliary is a volunteer association which raises funds in support of Ongwanada clients through special events and by operating a weekday canteen and giftshop at the Ongwanada Resource Centre. The Auxiliary is committed to enriching services and resources to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. This is accomplished by volunteers working together in cooperation with the staff and Board of Governors.

Contributions Past & Present:
The Auxiliary raises approximately $30,000 annually to support client programs, residences and activities.

In the past 25 years, the Auxiliary has contributed over a $1/2 million to Ongwanada. The funds have been used to furnish community homes, purchase wheelchair accessible vans and to provide a variety of specialized equipment for clients.

In 1997, the Auxiliary and staff together formed a new Canteen and Gift Shop Committee to revitalize this important service.

In 1992, the Auxiliary produced a collection of recipes called My Favourite Cookbook as a fundraising endeavour.

The Auxiliary typically not only achieves, but surpasses its fundraising goals. In 1989, the Auxiliary pledged $50,000 towards Ongwanada's redevelopment campaign over five years, but raised $60,000 in only four years.

Ongwanada Auxiliary Today:
Operates a canteen every weekday at Ongwanada Resource Centre in cooperation with Nutrition Services.

Manages the Butterfly Boutique, a gift shop located at Ongwanada Resource Centre for staff, clients and visitors.

Organizes a variety of fundraising events throughout the year such as bake sales, raffles, bazaars and strawberry socials.

President participates as a member of the Ongwanada Board of Governors.
